The fastest Marathon ever. Again! Now even lighter. Now even faster. Pure skin side walls and the new Speedgrip compound have further reduced weight and rolling resistance. Everything is optimized for speed. Pure dynamics: the low weight is noticeable every time you pull away. A RaceGuard belt protects against punctures.

Note: Skin-sidewalls are fast but sensitive. Always be certain to check for correct air pressure.

Tandem use

We’ve used them on our 2x20” tandem for 4 seasons - 2000 miles/yr. Great tire. Fast with a good ride. Flat resistance is amazing. Traction on all surfaces is much better than any other tire (not Schwalbe) we’ve tried. We are a 300# team so we are just under the load rating for two tires.

The rear tire shows significant wear after 2000 miles. I put new tires on each year and use the take offs on the Catrike.

Marathon Racer vs Kojak

Besides one being smooth and the other with a slight tread, what is the difference in these two tires?

Removable Presta Valve Stems.

Wish someone told me these stems were removable, learned quite by accident. One was a full turn loose, no wonder why I had bad leakage. Tighten them just snuggly, now they hold air for weeks instead of hours.

I ride a Catrike Expedition

I ride a Catrike Expedition that came with Schwalbe Marathon racers. This is my main transportation, so they get alot of miles. Not only are the fast, but I have never had a flat even though I have run through broken glass. I am very happy with the tires and highly recommend them.

Suitable for tandem use?

Hi. I have a Burley Rumba tandem; combined team/bike weight around 360lbs. Would this be a suitable tire (700x30, with kevlar bead) for unloaded riding around on paved roads? If not, can you recommend an alternative?

The comments about the “skin” sidewalls gives me pause — I’d prefer the tire not deform taking turns at fast speeds (this can be a little disconcerting!).

Thanks!
David

We use them on our tandem

We use them on our tandem without a problem…

oops...

just noticed the Load rating…

Do you have any tandem-appropriate tires in 700x30cm?

Thanks!
David

Which tire do you recommend?

I’m going on my first distance ride (down the Oregon coast) this summer and am looking at the Marathon Racer and the Marathon Tour as options. I like the weight of the racer but am concerned about the comments related to poor handling in wet conditions - which I expect to encounter. I’ll have bags but not huge weight - no camping gear - only clothes, etc…
What do you suggest?

Folding Bead or Wire Bead???

I’s riding Dahon SP8, dont know which one is suitable for me as the topic? What’s the different of those type? Please Help!!!

Bead Types

A wire bead tire has a bead core made from Steel, where as in folding tires, the steel wire is replaced with a hoop of Kevlar fiber. The advantage is that the tire can be folded and that, depending on the size, its weight can be reduced by 50 to 90 g. For your purposes either type would work fine. You can learn more about a tires construction here: http://www.schwalbetires.com/tech_info/tire_construction

Thanks,

Team Schwalbe

Outer diameter?

I have the Marathon Racer 18” (11111975 40-355 18 x 1.50) on my Birdy foldable bike. Nice tires that work fine so far.

Unfortunately I have reset my cycle computer, so I am now wondering if anyone know the outer diameter of this tyre? I have to enter that info when setting up my cycle computer.

Thanks in advance!

Outside Tire Diameter.

You can figure this yourself. Place a strip of tape across the face of the tire and up the side. Roll the bike till this contacts the floor and mark the spot. Roll the bike forward until the tape touches again and make the next mark. Measure the distance between and divide by 3.1414 to get the diameter. For greater accuracy roll two or more revolutions before placing the second marker.

Outside Tire Diameter

Thanks for the advice! I will try this out tonight.

Great Recumbent Tires...long lasting and fast

I have a set of the Marathon Racers (folding) on my Burley recumbent. After 4000 miles the rear tire, where most of the weight is carried, is finally showing some wear. The front tire shows little wear. A switched from Marathon Plus tires a few years ago and immediately noticed increased responsiveness and speed. The only problem I have had was getting the tire seated on the rim…it did not fit tight and took a little work to get it positioned where the tube would not protude under pressure. Once properly seated I have not had any complaints.

I have them on my Dahon Jetstream P8 2007

and I absolutely love them.
These tires are super fast and have an amazing grip on dry surface.
I only had one flat so far and that is not much considering I ride them an average of an hour each day for the last 6 months.
The rear one is starting to show wear and I am thinking about getting a pair of Kojak HS 385 to see how they do since I would like to get an even faster pair of tires.
Anyone has any experience with the Kojak HS 385?
thanks

HS 366: Fast, tough but I stack

I put these on my moutain bike for riding to work.

They made the ride heaps faster and I am very impressed that I’ve never had a flat even though I have gone over a lot of broken bottles.

The down side is that I’ve had two stacks on cement purely because the bike slipped out from under me. In both cases I was not going fast at all. Both these stacks happened within four months of getting the tyres on my bike.

These tyres don’t stand up in terms of grip.

Wet traction sucked for me

I had the 40-406 on the rear of my commuter recumbent, which carries 70% of the weight. The bike got faster, but wet grip was low. On wet cobblestones, I could spin the rear wheel off the line, and once had a close wipeout but caught it before a fall. No flats, but a piece of x-acto knife blade tossed or lost on the pavement ruined the tire. Switched to the new 47-407 Marathon HS 368, very little loss of speed, much better wet traction.
