Designed for expedition and rough terrain. Only by riding can the easy
rolling ability of the Marathon Extreme be experienced. The light, yet at the
same time, solid construction is made possible by the all-around SnakeSkin
fabric layer. The HighDensity belt protects against punctures and is made even
more efficient in this latest version with the addition of ceramic coating.

SnakeSkin + HD Ceramic Guard = Double Defense

Additionally the tire uses the latest compound. Triple Nano Compound ensures
safe grip on wet roads, low rolling resistance and remarkable durability.

High Density belt?

Hello,

Apart from the “ceramic coating”, is the High Density Belt similar to what was used in the Marthon XRs made in the 2007-8 timeframe? Or have there been any other changes to the way that strip is intgrated into the tire?

Thx,
Michael (a different Michael)

Availabilty?

Greetings,

what is the estimated availability of the 700x35 version?

TIA

Michael

Marathon Extreme 20" ???

It would be nice to see a 20” x 1.75

need a 700x50

Does Shwalbe have any plans for a 700x50 like the Marathon XR? So far I have been using the XR in a 700x50, but I would like to try this tire; a little too narrow right now though. Any plans for expanding this line up?

406mm heavy trekking tires?

Dear Schwalbe:

I am an owner of a Bike Friday Pocket Llama, I also know several owners of the Bike Friday New World Tourist and some other similar 406 (20”) wheeled touring bikes.

Myself and some friends have been wondering if there would be a possibility that a heavy trekking tire like the Extreme, Plus Tour or XR would ever make it to the 406 mm size. We like our travel bikes, and would love some good tires to explore more exotic touring options on.

It seems as though the Marathon Winter which is offered in the 406 mm size already has a tread very similar to the Marathon Extreme, albeit with the studs in place. Schwalbe already seems to have machines set up to produce that tread in this size!

The Marathon and Marathon Plus are great offerings and already offered in these sizes, but they are not folding, nor are they optimal mixed terrain tires. It would be great to see at least one of these tires make an appearance in the 406 mm size!

Sincerely,

- Abneycat

Availability?

I want to rock the hell out of these tires on some ultra-endurance rides this summer. When can I empty my wallet?

Confusing choice?

Both my touring bike and MTB have marathon XR’s and they are great. For touring it was always easy to go for XR but now we have a confusing choice. Which tire is the real successor to the XR??? The Marathon extreme or the marathon plus tour?
The Plus Tour would seem to be too heavy compared to the XR and according to your protection rating graph seems to offer the SAME protection as the Extreme.
Anyway my question is, when the time comes to replace my XR’s should I be looking at the Extreme or Plus version to get the SAME performance/puncture protection as the old XR’s ????

Marathon Extreme

The Marathon Extreme is more simmilar to the XR and offers the same or better performance/protection.
The Marathon Plus is a different tire altogether. It does not offer the same performance in terms of agility and light weight. However, it does offer the same or even better puncture protection.

When are these going to be

When are these going to be available in Portland, Oregon? I’ve been converting all my touring friends to various Marathon tires.

Much benefit over the XR?

I currently use the 26x2.25” XR’s on a heavily used cargo bike. I have absolutely no complaints with these tires, not a single flat after several thousand miles of heavy daily use and touring, and the tread scarcely looks broken in.

Is extra grip and a little weight savings pretty much all these would buy me?

With the 2.25” XR there’s so much rubber on the road that grip has never been an issue, and the weight savings wouldn’t make much difference considering the typical operating load of my setup on a daily basis.

Also, regarding the triple nano compound which this and the marathon supreme now share, how does this compare to the previous compound that was on the marathon supremes? I used a set of those tires with the “magic” compound and was rather disappointed with how easily it cut and wore.

the 2.25's

when are the 2.25’s going to be available. it looks like these might take the place of the xr’s for the long distance crowd. from the description they seem like they will have the perfect balance of everything. i think some people will chose the xr’s for the longer lasting tread but i’ve heard that the sidewalls always give out a bit before the tread ever could so it seems like a non issue. grip on and off road and in the wet, speed, protection, durability and light weight. pat on the back for schwalbe!

is there a size for 650 c wheels?

i have a 650 set and would like tirs that can take little more beating than the skinnies i have on. do u have a size that can fit?

no 700 size?

Why no 700x35 or 700x40 size? This looks like it is exctly what I could use on an upcoming tour in Tasmania. For the first time, we will be touring terrain where the paved roads are few and the gravel roads are many…are you planning on offering this in the 700 size, and if not, what am I missing?
Thanks

Make them in 29er

I’d be the first one to buy them. I’m sure others would follow!!
Any plans?

29er's

29ers are the same as 700c or ERTO 622, they all ready do make 29ers in 35 and 40 widths, how wide do you want them to be?

29'er

I would like to get these in 29in/700, but my rims require tires at least 50 wide.
