Really like the Marathon Plus HS 348

The Marathon Plus HS 348 is a really nice tire. Was using a Michelin 26x1 tire and switched to a Marathon Plus in a 26x1.5 and didn’t find much of a difference in rolling resistance or speed. The Marathon does have a lot more cushion to the ride which I really enjoy.

One thing I found was the Schwalbe recommended either their 13 or 14 number inner tubes for the 26x1.5 tire. I ordered two of them but had problems with them getting pinched when installing the tires. I got their size 12a which in their chart said it would fit and they did. The only difference between the 13/14 inner tubes and the 12a is the size is smaller on the 12a allowing it to fit within the tire easier.

There were suggestions to use Velcro Ties to install these tires for some were having problems with getting them onto their rims. I posted a question on this site as to how to use the velcro for I hadn’t really seen a way that it helped. Never got a response though. I actually didn’t have a problem installing the tires on my 1992 Trek 8000 which has Matrix Single Track Pro 26” rims. They do fit tight and may be a little more difficult on the road to change, but I would say it took me maybe an extra 3 to 5 minutes. You just have to have a good set of tire levers. I have 4 different sets and found my favorite set and the only set I needed to use was the Bontrager Tire Lever. There red in color and still available. There really built solid.

I also noticed that these tires have excellent corning cababities. They even held turns very well in loose fine stone. I hit a turn with very fine stone faster than I should have and thought for sure I was going down but to my surprise the tires kept me up right.

10,000 miles out of a Marathon Plus rear tire, no flats

I previously reviewed these tires and feel my comments said then still stand - the tire is heavy, has quite a bit of rolling resistance, and the tread wears off quickly. However, I ran the tire all the way down to the foam, no flats, 10,016 miles on the tire before replacing it.
